Kundali Milan (Vivah Matching) is based on moon sign a and its constellation (Nakshatra) in natal chart of bride and groom.

For long ,happy and successful married life, the ancient Indian sages and saints devised a method to check the matrimonial adaptability or marriageable compatibility which is called 'Marriage Matching' or 'Match-Making'. They devised the method of matching by Koota Agreement based on the Birth Stars of the boy and the girl. 10 kootas are considered for the actual horoscope matching and in some parts of India only 8 kootas are considered know as AshtaKoota, 36 Gunmilan.

Total points given are 36 for gunmilan if they scored alteast 50percentage of points marriage is merged with holistic chart study.
 

1. Varna Koot (Social  Matching)

There are four Varnas. Varna of the boy should be higher than that of the girl. A girl with higher Varna than a boy is not a good match. Varna Koot matching scores 1 point.

There are 4 Varna:

Brahmin(the literate), Kshatriya(the warriors), Vaishya(the Traders), and Shudra(the unskilled). Brahim is higher while Shudra is lower.




2. Vashya Koot (Ability to influence each other)

Vashya Koota means the mutual attraction between the two and ensures harmony. 
Matching scores 2 points.
  • Chatushpad (four-legged): Aries Taurus Sagittarius
  • Human or Dwipad (Biped): Gemini, Libra, Virgo
  • Jalachar (water dweller): Pisces, Capricorn Aquarius Cancer
  • Vanchar (wild beast): Leo.
  • Keet(insect): Scorpio

If the Grooms Rasi happens to be the Vasya rasi of the bride, the bride shall dearly love the groom and vice versa. 

 If the Moon sign of the man and woman happens to be the Vasya rasi of each other, then the affection among them is the strongest.


This indicates the degree of magnetic control or amenability the wife or husband would be able to exercise on the other.

3. TaraKoota (Dina Koota): Family health and happiness

DinaKoota means mating of charts or compatibility for day to day living and sharing of happiness and sorrow. The word Dina simply means day and refers to the day to day living and sharing. Totally based on the Navatara Chakra of the Female chart to Male chart

A couple gets 3 points for complete compatibility, 1.5 points if there is compatibility from the perspective of either the boy or the girl, and 0 points if there is incompatibility.
  • If Nakshatra of the bridegroom is 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 Nakshara's from the Nakshatra of the bride 3 points are given.
  • If either way then 1.5 Points
  • If difference is 1,3,5,7 then 0 zero points.
If man's moon nakshatra is located 9 or more nakshatras away the number is divided by 9 and we work
with the remainder. Ex. Nakshatra is 14. 14 divided by 9 = 1.
The remainder = 5. Because the remainder is 5 no points are being given.

4. Yoni (Sexual Attraction)

This is the physical appetite of each Nakshatra. The Nakshatra belonging to the same group is desirable, and. Yoni matching scores 4 points.




5. Graha Maitri(Friendship,Harmony)

Harmony between the couple & friendship between the rulers of the Janam Rashis of the boy and the girl decodes this. Match on this factor results in a score of 5 points




6. Gana: Attitude to life or temperament

All the Nakshatras are divided into three groups, based on their nature or disposition being divine; those belonging to the same category get along well. GanaMatching scores 6 points.

There are 3 Ganas
  • Deva: Divine
  • Manushya: Human
  • Rakshas: Demon
    

For Gana Koota, 6 points are awarded if there is complete compatibility, 5 points for some combinations, 1 point with minimal compatibility, and 0 points for incompatible couples.


7. Rashi Kuta – – Harmony in marriage

If the relationship is 5/9, 6/8, or 2/12 they get no points else they get 7 points.

If the Rashi difference between the boy’s Nakshatra and the girl’s Nakshatra or vice versa is 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, the couple is awarded 7 points. If the Nakshatra difference is any other value, the couple gets 0 points.

5/9 is NavPancham Bhakoota dosha
6/8 ShadAshtaka Bhakoota dosha


8. Nadi Koota (Health Compatibility)

Nadikoota is about the three Dosas Vata (wind), Pitta (bile), and Kapha resp. Sheshma (phlegm).
It has an influence on the physiological matching of the couple.

Nadi matching is important for the health of the children

The two charts and the Nadi of the boy and girl are in the same group, it has been found that the progeny born to such couples may not be healthy or even normal.
Matching of  Nadikoota scores 8 points.

The couple should have different Nadis in order to get 8 points. Otherwise, no point is given.




9. Mahendra: Wealth, longevity, progeny (NO POINTS)

Matching for marriage considers prosperity or wealth, longevity, and ability to have children as key factors to be considered for marriage. Mahendra Kuta denotes all of these factors

The nakshatra of the prospective bridegroom, counted from that of the bride, should be 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, or 25 to be considered a match.

The significance of Mahendra Kuta includes the ability of the man to support the family financially or be a good provider, a long life, and children for the couple.

10. Vedha: Pain /Obstruction

Vedha denotes affliction or pain. When the Nakshatras of the man and woman are not in agreement, the union of the man and the woman causes pain and suffering.

There are no points for this matching factor. It’s just a factor that needs to be ruled out.

11. Rajju: Longevity of married life / Bonding between the couple

Rajju Kuta is a key matching factor for marriages in South India and is based on the groups assigned to the Nakshatras of the bride and the groom. The groups are each assigned the name of a human body part. Rajju means rope and there seems to be a cosmic rope that binds men and women who belong to certain Rajju groups.

Here are the five groups of Rajju and the associated Nakshatras.
  • Padarajju(Feet): Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshta, Mula, Revit

  • Kantarajju (Neck): Rohini, Ardra Hasta, Swati, Shravana, Shatabhishak 
  1. Nakshatra of:  Moon and Rahu
  2. Traditional Astrology Belief: Represent Mangalyam of the wife. So represent Longevity of Wife
  3. Logical Explanation: One person’s Longevity is determined by his birth time only. No one can impact this. Only a killer can influence it. Not a wife / Husband. Other factors Also should define it alone Rajju can't.
  • Sirorajju(Head): Mrigashira  Chitra, Dhanistha 
  1. Nakshatra of: Mars
  2. Traditional Astrology Belief: Will impact again husband. ( Husband is “head” of the family)
  3. Logical Explanation: One person's Longevity is determined by his birth time only. No one can impact this. Only a killer can influence it. Not a wife / Husband. Other factors Also should define it alone Rajju can't.
12. Stree Deergha: Woman’s happiness after marriage (NO POINTS)

It gives importance to the happiness of the woman after marriage as a key factor for compatibility. StreeDeergha denotes a compatibility factor that ensures a Long marriage, good companionship, and a happy wife.

If the nakshatra of the bridegroom, counted from that of the bride, is at least 9 nakshatras away, you have a compatible StreeDeergha.
